There’s truly only one company that comes to mind when you think about mattresses in Southern California and that’s Sit ‘n Sleep. This local legend’s ubiquitous radio and television ads – with the famous catchphrases “You’re killing me Larry!” and “We’ll beat any competitors’ advertised price or your mattress is FREEE!” – are all hallmarks of L.A.’s pop-culture landscape.
Wingman formulated the media strategy to support Sit ‘n Sleep’s rapid expansion from their flagship store in Culver City to 22 superstores from Ventura to Palm Desert. A client since we first opened our doors, Sit ‘n Sleep has experienced growth in revenue from three million dollars to over 100 million dollars annually. Sit ‘n Sleep also has the top 22 volume mattress stores in the country, along with a 60% higher average ticket than the rest of the industry.
Sit ‘n Sleep’s brand profile has also risen exponentially, becoming a household name throughout Southern California.
These days, Sit ‘n Sleep’s owner, Larry Miller, can’t go anywhere without someone shouting, “…or your mattress is FREEE!” in his general direction.
Recent Objective:
From 2007 – 2009, the real estate market crashed causing a drastic decline in Sit ‘n Sleep’s sales.
Solution:
Working with one of our creative partners, Wingman developed a three-step approach to turning around Sit ‘n Sleep’s business. The first was to bring more buyers into the market. The second objective, to siphon market share from competitors. The final goal was to compete smarter during major sale periods.
Results:
In a down market last year, Sit ‘n Sleep enjoyed the largest grossing Labor Day weekend in the company’s 30-year history.
